Authorities reported they were contacted by a man who discovered a vehicle in Hanau covered with red-colored substance

Approximately 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.

Automobiles, walls and postboxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.

Officers state they were notified late on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.

The fluid had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Police then found numerous other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.

Police state initial examinations show the fluid was probably blood from a person.

"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; authorities are not yet aware of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they added.

Municipal representatives said they were working "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the residents for details.

A senior official stated the incident rendered him stunned and needed to be solved quickly.

"This incident affects the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he stated on social media, referring to the murder of nine people by a assailant targeting individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
