It has been 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story movie was released, launching Pixar as a major film company and introducing viewers to beloved figures like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a brief look into the storyline but keeping viewers wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang

The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser avoids is what the sheriff is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and helping giveaway items find good homes.

Certainly, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the insignia pinned to her shirt.

It is hoped she is still the driving force among the group.
