The Gaming Giant Hires Popular Battle Royale Lead to Rescue Troubled Hero Shooter Project Ethos

2K Games has appointed Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to direct the development team at their internal studio, which is currently working on the anticipated third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Management Shift Follows Lukewarm Response

Brinkman steps into the leadership position at 31st Union following the dismissal of former leader Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's disappointing unveiling last autumn.

Recently, 2K president David Ismailer informed staff about this organizational change through an official communication, which stressed that playtesting had indicated the necessity for a more defined vision.

Ismailer noted that the developers is now refining the project with a renewed vision, aiming to better meet player expectations.

Trend of Key Acquisitions

The news follows a comparable step taken by the publisher in the summer, when they hired Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to work on the beloved franchise development group.

Below is the complete text from Ismailer's announcement:

Team—

I know you all just completed your gathering - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the recent updates. Last time I sent you all a message, I stated the following: “I believe in this crew. You all are some of the most driven and talented creators we have had the pleasure to collaborate with - and we’re excited for that partnership to persist.”

With your dedication and adaptability, especially over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.

The player input from last autumn’s the game testing phase was informative. It affirmed the appeal of a action-packed game but told us we still had refinements needed. It revealed the necessity for a more distinct identity.

It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve progressed. You took the input to mind and reimagined the title with a renewed direction - one that’s ready to fulfill its ambition to our players.

Our confidence in Project ETHOS increases every day. To advance the incredible advancement you’ve made, I am thrilled to introduce Ben Brinkman as the incoming Director of 31st Union. After some time of talks, Ben officially joins us on Monday, October 20.

Ben’s management and experience in the competitive gaming space is vast, having spent the past decade and a half producing and overseeing some of the most popular titles in gaming, including the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, the battle royale hit.

Let’s together in receiving Ben next week. We are all excited to keep witnessing the evolution of Project ETHOS in the weeks to ahead.

The President

Experience of the New Leader

Brinkman presently holds the role of senior developer and head of production at Respawn Entertainment for their flagship title. He previously worked at major gaming companies in various production roles on the Call of Duty games, and, prior to that, had assignments at 2K and Electronic Arts.

Title Details and Vision

The upcoming game was unveiled in last year together with a community playtest. At the time, the developers portrayed the title as a "free-to-play, 3rd-person roguelike hero shooter and an exciting evolution on the style."

"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Build your hero in live gameplay to fit your unique tactics," the official summary states. "Take on the rivals with fresh skills, stakes, and tests that shift every session. Will you withdraw carefully with your hard-earned loot? Or go big, risk it all, and hope your team can secure victory? The decision is in your hands."

The game does not have an announced launch window or consoles, but players can expect further news as creation continues.
